“Cradle” is a lid for a (cardboard) funerary box. This work was created for an exhibition organized by the Natural Death Centre in Mullumbimby as a celebration of the “day of the Dead” and as part of a 3 day event in the community to help de-mystify death and empower people to be able to plan and prepare for death and to create a more natural and eco friendly coffins and shrouds.
“Cradle” is primarily about being held with great love and care.
My inspiration for this work comes from the Russian Babushka and Egyptian Sarcophagus. Symbols concerned with peace, love, hope, strength and the after life have been painted on the chinese funeral papers representing in this instance the value and fragility of life.
